Russia is a unique country of diversity that can offer a wide range of tourist opportunities to foreign visitors. Russia is a transcontinental country, extending halfway around the northern hemisphere and covering much of eastern and northeastern Europe and the whole of northern Asia. Russia covers 1/7th of the total land of our planet, has 12 seas in its territory and neighbors more countries than any other country on earth. Its territory stretches from northern latitudes to subtropical areas in the south and is full of natural landmarks.
The Urals are the oldest mountains in the world with more than 200 minerals and precious stones found in depths of these mountains.
Lake Baikal is the world's deepest lake and the largest reservoir of fresh water on earth.
Ladoga Lake (near St. Petersburg) is the largest one in Europe.
Russia is also home to the world’s largest active volcano Klyuchevskaya Sopka, which has a height of 4,750 m.
Russia is known as the «lungs of Europe» since it has the largest forest reserves in the world, and the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by it is second only to the rainforests in the Amazon.
Russian Volga - the longest river of Europe – rises northwest of Moscow and extends southward some 3700 km through the whole central part of the country. Volga cruise travel is very popular with Russian and foreign tourists, allowing them to visit several old Russian cities along the banks of the river.
If you prefer traveling by train, then the Trans Siberian railroad, the longest one in the world, may take you from Vladivostok to Moscow in just 152 hours and 27 minutes if you do it non-stop.
Russian city Oimyakon is considered to be the cold pole of the world, with the lowest temperature registered in year 1933 being -67.7 °C.
In June, a phenomenon known as the «White Nights» can be seen in some northern parts of Russia. It is a time when night remains bright, as the sun does not sink below the horizon.
